United Healthcare Deadline: Open
The United Healthcare Children's Foundation (UHCCF) is accepting grant
applications for families who have children with critical healthcare
treatment, services, or equipment not covered or not fully covered by
their parents' health benefit plans.
The foundation provides grants to families to help pay for child
healthcare services such as speech therapy, physical therapy,
occupational therapy sessions, prescriptions, and medical equipment such
as wheel chairs, orthotics, and eyeglasses.
Parents and legal guardians may apply for grants of up to$5,000 each for
child medical services and equipment by completing an online application
at the UHCCF Web site.

The Denver Metro CPRC presented trainings on Special Education Law and Writing Effective Individualized Education Plans

To parents attending the African American Parent Leadership Training. This was a grant that was awarded to Parent to Parent of Colorado from the Colorado Developmental Disability Council which made the six sessions possible.  Sessions did not only include topics related to school but leadership and advocacy skills, community resources, and knowledge on legislative issues.


These are cool and fun for kids but help with safety! 10/20/2009

We received notification from the US Department of Education that our grant request was awarded for another 3-years.  We look forward to continuing to serve families in the 5-county area!


Summer Activity for Youth 10-14 - August 5, 2008
Denver Metro CPRC collaborated with Art from Ashes to bring Noelle Benjamin (Lead Facilitator) to conduct a workshop with youth, ages 10 to 14, on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. The workshop took place at Cerebral Palsy of Colorado, and offered girls and boys an opportunity to learn how to express themselves through poetry.  Our young poets put paper and pens to work by writing their thoughts, which combined made beautiful poetry they were able to share on the microphone to the group.  For more information, call (303) 365-2772.


Community Event in Montbello - June 18, 2008
Denver Metro CPRC will share resource information at the "Healing the Hood...Empowering our Community" picnic/event on Saturday, June 28, 2008 from 1:00-7:00 p.m..  We invite you to stop by our booth offering information regarding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other disability related information for families and their children. We also invite you to come and meet our board members. Denver Metro CPRC at Derby Daze this weekend! - June 9, 2008
Denver Metro CPRC took part in the 9th Annual Derby Daze health fair and community celebration this Saturday, June 14, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..  The CPRC provided a resource table with information in English and Spanish on the Individualized Education Program (IEP), Mediation, contacts to advocacy organizations, and other information and resources for families who have children with disabilities. The fair took place on the street near 7290 Magnolia Street. Family Battles School District For Answers - May 13, 2008
Parents Challenge Change In Curriculum

Gilian Stubbs said math teachers at Ranum High School in Adams County told him they were not sure where he should go during the start of the semester in January 2007, so, he wandered the halls. "I wasn't sure where I was supposed to go for the first week and a half of the semester because they wouldn't tell me," he said. Gilian is one of the more than 83,000 students receiving some form of special education in Colorado public schools. To read the full story click below:

Office Depot Donation - 4/10/08
Denver Metro CPRC received a generous donation in the amount of five hundred dollars, in addition to twenty-five backpacks with basic school supplies at the Office Depot Grand Opening/Ribbon Ceremony on Thursday, April 10, 2008.  CPRC board member, Mr. Abel Coombs attended the ceremony and accepted the donation on behalf of Denver Metro CPRC.  Also in attendance were Rachel Molnar, Volunteer Outreach Coordinator and Gabriela Perez, Outreach Coordinator and Parent Advisor.


CPRC featured in CRUEcenter News! - 3/31/08
Our own Denver Metro Parent Resource Center was featured in the Culturallly Responsive Urban Education (CRUE) news on their website. "One important service provided by the Denver Metro CPRC is the African American Parent Leadership Project. They started the training last year in collaboration with Parent to Parent in order to assist African American parents in becoming informed leaders in their community. Each cohort of parents, in groups of no more than15 to maintain intimacy, meet monthly over five sessions to learn advocacy skills, how to navigate municipal and educational systems, and where to gain support within their community.
