Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) - January 2010

The Family Leadership Training Institute of Colorado, Denver Site

Dear Interested Participant:

We are pleased to announce 1st Annual Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) to be hosted in Denver. We will offer in-depth leadership training to 25-30 selected individuals.

The family is a child’s first and most important teacher. Family members are also the best advocates for their children. Families can speak out on issues and inform policy-makers, the media, and the community, about the needs of their members.

FLTI offers a stimulating curriculum that will boost family leadership skills to address areas of concern such as, accessible child healthcare, the achievement gap, neighborhood safety, parenting/grand parenting support, family and youth relationships, and the significance of parental involvement.

Together, class participants will emerge as strong leaders and advocates for all children and their families. Individuals will be selected for class participation with consideration given regarding how their participation will enhance diversity, strength, and learning for the group as a whole. Interviews will start in December 2009. Classes begin on Monday, January 25, 2009. Our retreat day is scheduled for Saturday, January 23, 2010.

Participants are offered three phases of training:

1) A retreat to develop group cohesion and define mission.

2) 10-week course on leadership, understanding personal history and its impact on perception.

3) 10-week study of politics, policy and media with a self selected Community Project to practice your new skills within a community framework.

Who should apply?

Parents, teen parents, grandparents and other adults who wish to improve the lives of children, families and communities.

The institute is offered free of charge. Your time, commitment, and a written community project that reflects your passion, is what we ask in return. Please consider whether FLTI is the right initiative and opportunity for you at this time.

Please return the completed application form as soon as possible to Di Holmes, Denver FLTI Site Coordinator, c/o Family Voices, 450 Lincoln Street, Denver, CO 80203 or call (303) 371-3337.

Thank you.
